Jonita Joins Ed Sheeran for a Cross-Cultural Spin on ‘Heaven’

India’s leading pop powerhouse Jonita has teamed up with global music icon Ed Sheeran for a fresh, cross-cultural rendition of his song ‘Heaven’

The collaboration — released as part of Sheeran’s ‘Play: The Remixes EP’ — marks a major moment of East-meets-West fusion, as Jonita brings a Hindi verse to one of Sheeran’s most heartfelt tracks.

The Hindi-English remix finds Sheeran’s soft, folk-pop melody woven with Jonita’s ethereal vocals and fluid transitions between languages, creating a version that feels intimate yet globally expansive. It’s also Sheeran’s first track to feature Hindi lyrics — signalling his deepening connection with the Indian music scene, following earlier collaborations with Karan Aujla, Hanumankind, and Dhee on the same EP.

Commenting on the collab, the ‘Hello’ singer says: “I’ve been such a huge fan of Ed’s for as long as I can remember, so getting to collaborate with him on this version of ‘Heaven’ feels really special. After having the chance to meet him and even open for his concert earlier this year in India, I was blown away by how genuine and grounded he is — and how much he truly appreciates the music and culture here. It’s a beautiful love song, and I feel so honoured to bring a little bit of my personality and heart into it. I’m so excited for people to hear this version!”

Jonita’s initial encounter with Ed took place last year in Bombay, where she was struck by his genuine curiosity about Indian music and its rich instrumentation. That impression deepened when he later shared early versions of the ‘Play’ tracks—songs that vividly brought those influences to life. More recently, she opened for Sheeran during his show in Chennai, and reflects on their collaboration on ‘Heaven’ as “an honour I’ll hold close forever”.

Ed explains, “I met Jonita in 2024 when I played in Mumbai and then got to do some shows with her the following year when I came back for tour. In short, I’m a fan. I love her voice – the tone, the softness. This was the perfect tune for us to do together, and it’s also the first Hindi song I have released. It’s an honour to do it with her – what a talent.”
